What is hangul day?

Hangul Day, also known as Hangul Proclamation Day, is a South Korean national holiday that celebrates the creation and proclamation of the Korean alphabet, Hangul. The holiday is observed on October 9th each year to honor King Sejong the Great, who created Hangul in the 15th century in order to improve literacy among the Korean people.

Hangul is considered one of the most scientific and efficient writing systems in the world, with each letter representing a unique sound and easily combinable to form syllables. The creation of Hangul played a significant role in promoting literacy and education in Korea, as it allowed common people to easily recognize and learn the script.

On Hangul Day, various events and activities are held throughout South Korea to promote the Korean language and culture. This includes Hangul calligraphy exhibitions, contests, performances, and educational programs. The day is also a time for reflection on the importance of language and the cultural heritage of Korea.
